A DUI Conviction Can Rob You of Your Time, Money, and Reputation.

Even if you have no prior criminal record, you could be subject to the following punishments for a misdemeanor DUI in Arizona:

  • Jail Time
  • Fines
  • Mandatory Assessments
  • Alcohol or Drug Classes
  • Supervised Probation
  • License Suspension
  • Mandatory Installation of an Ignition Interlock Device

All of these potential punishments get worse if you have prior convictions.  They get even worse if you are charged with extreme DUI or felony Aggravated DUI.  There can also be other consequences beyond the court’s sentence that can have a big impact on your life.  A DUI conviction can negatively affect employment, professional licensing, immigration matters, and child custody proceedings.  The truth is, the DUI attorney you hire to help you with your case could affect the rest of your life.  Obviously, you need to hire someone you trust.  Of course, you also need to hire someone you can afford.

Can Anything Be Done?

Many people mistakenly believe that being charged with a DUI is a hopeless situation.  In many cases, however, a good DUI attorney can develop a strong defense.  Although a drug or alcohol test may indicate the presence of drugs or an illegal amount of alcohol, it is just one piece of evidence that can often be neutralized.  These tests are often flawed and can be attacked in a number of ways.  Sometimes a significant legal issue, when presented properly to the court, can result in charges being dismissed prior to trial.  In other cases trial may be the best option.  These cases can be won, just look at some of my past trial results.  Even if the facts of a case are bad and trial is not the best option, there is almost always something that can be done to at least reduce the charges and/or the negative impact of a DUI.

Superior Representation

I have over 15 years of experience handling DUI cases in Tucson and Pima County and have presented over 100 cases to a jury.  I began my legal career prosecuting DUI cases just like yours, so I understand how the other side works.  I have now defended DUI cases in Tucson for over 10 years.  I am also a certified specialist in criminal law through the State Bar of Arizona.  I pride myself on providing top-notch, client-oriented representation.  I am personally involved and concerned with the outcome of all of my cases.  If I take on your case, you can rest easy knowing that I will use every defense strategy possible to try to get your charges reduced or dropped.  In misdemeanor DUI cases I can usually appear in court on your behalf without you having to be there, saving you from having to take time off of work.  I will also represent you in your license suspension proceedings with the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Here’s what others have said about my services:

“I spoke to a few other attorneys and Mr. Leonardo was by far the highest qualified and the best. He is upfront, fair, and honest being a former federal litigator and member of the military. I felt comfortable speaking with him and believe he is a genuinely good person. I highly recommend him!!!” — Rick

“Mr. Leonardo represented me in my criminal case for the past 3 years.  He is very knowledgable, careing and is always on top of things. He had made my horrific experience bearable in which gave me the confidence in him to sucessfully come out with a win.” — Efrain

“Mr. Leonardo did an excellent job representing me during my DUI case. With his help all my charges were dismissed during a jury trial. Without his help I would have probably accepted a plea bargain (jailtime, license suspension, fines) but with Mr. Leonardo’s help I decided not to and eventually got the charges dismissed.” — SM

“In all my dealings with him I felt that he cared about the outcome of my trial. I had complete trust in all his decisions. He was very knowledgeable and kept me informed and up to date on all incoming changes. I would not hesitate to hire him to represent me again if I ever need an attorney for any matter.” — Johnie

“Nathan was always professional as well as nonjudgmental. He knew what he was doing and I felt very comfortable working with him throughout the court proceedings. He returned my calls promptly and answered any questions I may have had. He was always willing to meet in person as well. I knew I was in good hands with Nathan Leonardo.” — Kathy

What about results?  No honest DUI defense attorney can guarantee a particular outcome in your case — it is simply impossible given the number of factors involved.  Nevertheless, you should be able to look at a lawyer’s track record.  You wouldn’t want to hire a surgeon who has never performed a surgery, or who has little or no record of performing successful surgeries, no matter what kind of service that surgeon provides.  The same is true of hiring a lawyer.  You probably don’t want to hire a lawyer who never goes to trial or who has no record of success at trial.  That is why I encourage you to take a look at my trial victory page.  These are just recent trial victories in Tucson DUI and vehicular cases; the list doesn’t include many cases where I have been able to get DUI charges dismissed.

Reasonable Fees

I always advise people to speak with several attorneys, because it’s important to find someone they are comfortable with.  If you do this, ask about the fees that each lawyer charges.  Hiring an attorney is not inexpensive — it takes time and expertise to do an effective job — but I think you will find that my fees are reasonable.  You’ll notice that I’m certainly not the least expensive DUI attorney in Tucson, but I’m also not the most expensive.  I do offer payment plans if necessary.  I think it’s important to make my services accessible to people, but I also need to make a living while keeping my caseload small enough to enable me to do exceptional work on each case.

If you’re looking for a DUI attorney in Tucson or nearby, I would be happy to discuss the details of your case, at no charge, to determine whether I can help.  I try not to take new cases unless I believe there is some way that I can improve your situation because I want to make sure you are getting value from my services.  I am also always concerned with getting good results — it’s how I earn my reputation and ensure future business.
